Children’s Home – Information for Residents

Dear Neighbour,

We understand that there might be or have been concerns raised about our plans for The Squirrel, 102 Redwood Drive, and we want to take a moment to explain directly what we are doing and how it affects the community.

What we are planning

  • Templar Hive will be a small children’s home maintaining a low occupancy for up to three young people who cannot live with their families, with a minimum 1:2 staffing ratio at all times.
  • The house will remain a normal family-style home, there is no external changes, no signage, and no extra buildings.
  • A small team of carers will provide support, similar to how foster parents care for children in their homes.
  • Children will never be left unsupervised.
  • The property will be managed professionally and in a way that respects the peace and safety of the neighbourhood.
  • The staff team is trained in safeguarding, behaviour management, and community engagement.
  • External CCTV will be installed for perimeter monitoring only in line with safeguarding and data protection laws.

What this means for the estate

  • The use of the property remains residential, in keeping with the rest of Woodlandglade.
  • There will be no noise, disruption, or changes to the look and feel of the area.
  • We are fully regulated by Ofsted and follow strict standards to keep everyone safe and secure.

Our commitment to you
We want to be good neighbours and part of the community. To that end, once we are operational in Woodlandglade:

  • We will provide a direct phone and email contact for any concerns.
  • We will respond quickly and openly to any issues raised.
  • Our aim is to blend in quietly, not stand out.

We hope this reassures you that what we are doing allows vulnerable children to live in a safe, caring home without affecting the peace and character of Woodlandglade.

Our community should reflect values of care and inclusivity. Supporting vulnerable children to live in a normal, residential setting aligns with those values.

Thank you for reading and for being part of a caring community.
